Microsoft TaskMarket, another job market?

Flickr, News, Resources, Reviews
Microsoft TaskMarket.com (full screenshot), originally uploaded by asim.zeeshan. Microsoft has introduced a new service called Microsoft Task Market which connects small businesses with skilled freelancers for help such as web development, graphic design, marketing, copy writing, document translation, and virtually anything. Simply put, Task Market allows you to post a job in order to find someone who can do it for you. If you are a freelancer, it helps you to search for jobs for which you can get paid in return. This service is similar to other famous freelance places like ODesk, RentACoder, GetaCoder, GetaFreelancer etc but with Microsoft on its backend, Task Market looks quite promising. The interface is very easy and simple and you can login using a Windows Live account. Users have their own profile where…

World’s Cheapest Windows Laptop

News, Reviews
Microsoft and India's HCL Infosystems said they would work together to develop a Windows-based laptop PC that will be the cheapest available in any market worldwide. The system, called the MiLeap H Series, will run Windows XP Home and will sell for 17,000 Indian rupees, or about $425 (U.S.). The MiLeap H features a 30-GB hard drive and is "broadband ready," the companies said in a statement Friday. Microsoft chief operating officer Kevin Turner, at a launch event in Mumbai, said the offering is meant to "empower Indian consumers and businesses with the latest and best that technology has to offer." Microsoft, along with a number of other vendors, is eyeing the low-cost PC market as a major growth opportunity -- particularly in emerging markets where average incomes pale compared…

Yahoo Adds Video to Flickr

News, Resources, Reviews
Yahoo has added support for video to its photo sharing site Flickr. Yahoo wants users to start sharing videos, shot by still cameras, camcorders and camera phones, as well as photos, and Video on Flickr provides an easy solution for consumers, according to the company. Video can be up to 90 seconds long, and no more than 150M bytes in size. To upload video you have to be a Flickr Pro user, but everyone can watch. Users can upload videos directly from mobile phones, and integrate videos and photos into a stream. There is also an API for third-party developers to create programs or services using authorized video submitted to Flickr. Whether it will be able to compete with Youtube remains to be seen, but Yahoo thinks there is a…

phpMyChat Vulnerability – seeking help from the officials

News, OpenSource, PHP
A post from my old blog (archives): On May 5th 2005, we had to close our chat room because of some "bad users" getting into the chat room using the vulnerability in phpMyChat that allows a remote user to bypass authentication. I looked at the vendor's website but to my surprise the development is put to a full stop. There was no official or unofficial patch for the above problem. While I was looking for a patch i found numerous security monitoring websites that has listed this and many other BUGS since June 2004 (almost a year ago). I was like; "The security holes were discovered almost a year before but there is no, absolutely NO comment over that. An immediate patch is also missing. The point to note is…

Domain Tasting ends in 2008

News
Yes you heard it right, Domain Tasting will end in 2008. This year i have been seeing some positive motion to end this domain-tasting/front-running and i am hopeful that it will be at least minimized to greater extent if not stopped completely. This is what DomainTools Blog comments on it: "The ICANN board just passed the following motion to end Domain Tasting, “THEREFORE, the Board resolves to encourage ICANN’s budgetary process to include fees for all domains added, including domains added during the AGP, and encourages community discussion involved in developing the ICANN budget, subject to both Board approval and registrar approval of this fee. It did not directly deal a death blow to tasting, but it was a definitive motion that will kill it this year. This policy is…
